Community Group Showcase

02 May 2018

Local community groups will be encouraged to do a little bragging in May. Graham Perrett, the Federal Member for Moreton is hosting a Showcase for local community groups so they can show local Southside residents the wonderful work they do.

“I know how great the community groups on the Southside are but, sadly, not everyone does. This will be an opportunity for the rest of the community to see what’s available for them”, said Graham Perrett.

“We have some wonderful community groups in our area. There is something for everyone, whether you are a budding artist, a history buff, like to throw a ball or just like a chat. I encourage you to come along to the Showcase and see what’s out there.”

All local community groups are welcome to have a display at the Showcase. Some of the groups that have confirmed they will be there include: St David’s Neighbourhood Centre, Stephen’s Croquet Club, Flexi Care, Girl Guides Wellers Hill, Stephen’s Local History Group, Salibury RSL, Rotary Club of Archerfield, Annerley Community Bookshop, Moorooka Lions Club, Red Cross, Playgroup Queensland, Coorparoo Quilters, Sunnybank Scout Group, Self-Help Queensland and Yeronga Community Plus.

The Australian Red Cross support the Showcase initiative. Ms Leisa Bourne, the Queensland State Director will be attending the Showcase and will share some insights into the Red Cross #Beatloneliness campaign that was launched this month. “Experts are now saying that Australia is facing a loneliness epidemic, with one in four Australians experiencing loneliness almost all of the time or on a regular basis” Ms Bourne stated. “The aim of our campaign is to bring the issue of loneliness out into the open, start conversations and build a community for those who feel alone and isolated”
