Federal government financial assistance

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP)

This is a one-off, non means tested payment of AU$1000 for eligible adults and AU$400 for eligible children affected by a major disaster either in Australia or overseas.

Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA)

The DRA is a short-term income support payment to assist individuals who can demonstrate their income has been affected as a direct result of a disaster.

You can make a claim for financial assistance via MyGov or by calling 180 22 66.

Centrelink workers are now on the ground locally at the community hubs listed below so that people can lodge their applications. 

Queensland government payments

The Queensland government also has financial support. 

Eligible people can apply for the following financial assistance grants:
  • Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant
  • Essential Household Contents Grant
  • Structural Assistance Grant
  • Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Grant

Queensland government payments for sporting clubs

Any sporting clubs that have experienced damage during the floods may be eligible for these grants.

Funding of up to $5,000 (Level 1) and $20,000 (Level 2) may be available for eligible sport and active recreation organisations located in areas declared under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Payments to business and not-for-profit

Businesses impacted by flooding and rainfall disaster across Queensland maybe available for these grants.
Recovery grants of up to $50,000 are available with $15,000 paid upfront. This grant can be used for clean-up activities, repairs including damage to equipment, flooring and walls, and to replace lost stock.

Local Community Support Centres

  • Community Plus and Yeronga Community Centre, 26 Devon St, Yeronga are open during the day for light refreshments, food pantry, and support from various services including Services Australia (Centrelink):
  • The Clubhouse Moorooka (old Bowls Club) at 76 Koala Road, Moorooka is also operating as a Community Recovery Hub.  Staff from Centrelink and the Community Recovery Team are on hand to provide you with support on applying for financial support, accommodation and wellbeing.  They are open from 9:00am - 5:00pm seven days a week. People requiring assistance with flood recovery can head to a Community Recovery Hubs to access financial, housing and wellbeing services.
  • A Community Recovery Hub is also operating at the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre at 38 Thallon Street, Sherwood.  Centrelink and staff from the Community Recovery Team are also on hand to provide support when applying for financial grants. People requiring assistance with flood recovery can head to a Community Recovery Hubs to access financial, housing and wellbeing services.

Additional support is also available from these services at these three Community Recovery Hubs:

  • St David's Neighbourhood Centre at 68 Orange Grove Road, Coopers Plains is open and can help with dry clothes, hot meals, tea and coffee, phone charging, assistance to services and applying for disaster payments online.   

Operation Energise

Operation Energise helps vulnerable households and community groups in need that have been flooded to be reconnected.
Licensed electricians will go into homes and community groups check electricals for safety and get the power reconnected.
