Moreton Stronger Communities Grants

The 2017/18 Round of the Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) has now CLOSED for expressions of interest. Applicants will be advised of the status of their application following a meeting of the Community Consultation Committee.

What is the Stronger Communities Grant programme?
The Moreton Stronger Communities Programme offers grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 to community organisations and local governments for small capital projects that improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy of our community on Brisbane's Southside, within the Moreton electorate. To be eligible for a SCP grant, applicants are required to match SCP grants in cash or in-kind on at least a dollar for dollar basis.

Up to $150,000 will be allocated to projects within Moreton on the advice of a community consultation committee who will review all applications. Successful applications are then submitted to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science for review and final sign off.

What are some examples of grants that have been successful?
Examples of successful applications in previous rounds of the SCP in Moreton include:

  • $12,000 for the Kuraby Knights Cricket Club for a facilities upgrade;
  • $5,500 for the Salisbury Rotary for the purchase of a community BBQ trailer;
  • $16,000 for the Salisbury Primary P&C for upgrading their hall and purchasing equipment; and
  • $6,000 for Chelmer Station Kindy for the purchase of new interactive learning tools.

    Our Lady of Fatima Primary School has opening up it’s doors to the Acacia Ridge Community by running a ‘Toddler Tuesday’:ready for school and playgroup program, 8:45-10:30am Tuesdays during school terms.

    We are currently using the Library facilities which require an update to cater for the multi-pupose use of the building and were looking at a change in floor coverings and some more suitable furniture. The school currently covers the costs of the Library maintenance, providing Teaching staff, morning tea and resources for the program.

    St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School really needs to purchase a portable stage for many activities we have at the school. We have in the past borrowed from other schools, but this is difficult to organise, time consuming to get and return. We need a portable stage which can be used in various locations at the school i.e. Fete day on the oval, Performances in the school hall

    Men’s Shed – Algester, Parkinson, Calamvale , Drewvale, Sunnybank Hills. Community

    Land at Anglican Church , Algester Rd has been made available, with the full support

    of the church community.

    Two sheds have been donated.

    Costs- Relocation of sheds, cement slabs , electricals, plumbing, council permits, legal costs

    Basic wood working equipment & safety equipment.

    Sheet metal equipment & safety equipment.

    Training of supervision staff as laid down by the Australian Men’s Shed Association.

    Incorporation fees, Legal costs. Basic office equipment.

    First meeting attracted 30 interested members.

    Steering committee of eight men has been formed & chairman elected.

    All three levels of government have been approached for advice & support. Relevant paper work for setting up of Men’s Shed is under way as of the 13/07/2017.

    We are in desperate need for a Shade Cover and to extend our prep area playground. Currently over 110 prep students utilise the area daily and during the last term we run a pre-prep playgroup. We only have a small climbing structure and a sandpit with 2 small slides. The slides can only be used sometimes during one lunch break and not at all in summer as there is no cover and it’s extremely hot with the slides burning hot.

    Our P&C would happily cover half the cost.
