Federal Member for Moreton, Graham Perrett has called on organ donors to have informed conversations with their families about their wish to donate.
Mr Perrett recently toured the Queensland Bone and Skin Bank in Coopers Plains, the largest suppliers of bone and tissue in Australia. Last year the Bank provided musculoskeletal grafts to almost 2,500 patients.
“Organ and tissue donations are a gift of life and it is important that everyone involved understands the wishes of their loved ones, Mr Perrett said.
"The highly specialised activity that occurs at this local facility, not only saves lives, but also gives people a new lease on life.
“The work done by staff at the Coopers Plains’ facility helps burns patients all over Queensland.
“Since the former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd established the Organ and Tissue Authority, public awareness of organ and tissue donation has increased”, Mr Perrett said.
Mr Perret said that organ and tissue donations from Queenslanders remains at a steady rate, however we can do better.
